The structural challenge

The plate was deep, the rent was justified by the address, and daylight died past the first six metres. The company needed an engineering floor that stays quiet and a client floor that can hold a board, a product review, and a visit from another continent on the same afternoon. Previous lighting had been specified for the grid and turned harsh on inverter power. Meeting rooms had been dropped into the plan wherever a column allowed, so the best windows were wasted on storage.

The execution

Collaboration sits on the glass. Desks sit inboard and borrow light through glazed rooms rather than competing with the view. A long run of oak and blackened-steel joinery carries focus rooms, print, and the prayer room, so those needs are not leftover corners. We kept the polished concrete and added wool acoustic baffles sized to the actual reverberation of the hall. The reception screen is bronze mesh, dense enough to slow a view and open enough to feel made, not branded. All lighting is 3000K and tested on both utility power and the inverter so the workplace does not change mood at handover.
